Workshops for Writers
Award-winning author and educator
Rebecca Langston-George teaches in-person and virtual workshops for those interested in writing.
Presentation Topics
Whether your group members are new to writing or are looking to expand their writing horizons, Rebecca has a fun and informative presentation for them that will get the audience engaged and answer all their questions.
Topics Include:
How to be a Scrappy Little Writer and Pursue all the Publication Paths
Learn how to broaden your approach beyond writing for the traditional market, to also include self or hybrid publishing, and writing for the educational market through work-for-hire. You'll learn the perks and pitfalls of each path and how to juggle all three so that you really can have it all as well as build writing credits, snag an agent, and be your own boss.
Break In with Work-for-Hire
Discover how to break into children’s writing by selling your skills as a writer, rather than selling your manuscript. Find out how to create a compelling pitch packet that includes your skillset, interests, and writing samples.
Writing for the Children’s Market
Find out the different age categories of children’s writing as well as the typical word count, best-selling genres, and hallmarks of each category. Discover the difference between trade publishing, self-publishing and hybrid publishing and which is the best fit for your situation. Learn how to find an agent and whether you need one. Get all your questions answered about writing for children in this workshop designed for both beginning writers and established writers wanting to transition into the children’s market.
Deep Dive into Non-Fiction
Dive into the five types of non-fiction for children with examples of each category and the appeal of each for young readers. Evaluate which type of non-fiction would be a good fit for you as a writer based on your own interests. Leave with a reading list and writing plan from a writer who never set out to write non-fiction but has published 16 non-fiction books.
